Barclay Primary School is delighted to have been showcased in the latest Ofsted publication celebrating outstanding Early Years Provision. The national publication – Bold Beginnings – features selected early years providers and highlights the successes they have achieved over the past 12 months. Ofsted selected 41 schools nationally to contribute to this study – Barclay Primary was the only school selected from Waltham Forest to participate.
Justin James, Chief Executive Officer of the Lion Academy Trust said: 'For us it starts in early years – get that right and everything else follows from there – behaviour, aspiration, achievement and progress. I am delighted to see the relentless hard work and focus of the whole Early Years team at Barclay Primary reflected so positively on a national stage and welcome the opportunity to share how we have built a leading early years provision for every pupil. We are striving to ensure every school across the Trust meets and exceeds the same high standards we demonstrate here, every day.'
Pupils at Barclay Primary School arrive into nursery on average 12 months behind the national expected developmental levels. Ofsted commissioned the report to highlight deficiencies in early years provision nationally – but drew on the outstanding practice from Barclay Primary School to highlight how to ensure every pupil gets the best possible start in their learning journey.
Daniel-John Constable, the Acting Head of School at Barclay and Lindsey Hall, the Deputy Head and Early Years Foundation Stage lead were equally proud to be included: 'It is a testament to the professionalism and commitment of all the staff here at Barclay that we are included in these types of publications,' commented Daniel. 'We have taken every aspect of the early years curriculum and the developmental milestones for pupils this age and created an Early Years quality framework that supports our teams deliver a good or better experience for our pupils and families, every day, said Lindsey. 'We are delighted with this recognition and do host multiple visits and tours from interested educationalists and other schools from across the country to share our practice and strategies more widely.'
The Lion Academy Trust also run Sybourn and Thomas Gamuel Primary Schools in Waltham Forest, on the same principles and to the same standards and expectations as those at Barclay Primary School. Parents and carers interested in securing a place for their child both this year and next year are invited to come to any of the Trust’s schools and have a tour to see this provision first hand.
