Leytonstone - The Lion Academy Trust welcomes the intended outcome of schools working together to deliver the best possible school improvement support for every school in every locality. The Secretary of State for Education made the so-called “try before you buy” announcement on 28.04.21 - but this model is only one possible route to get schools working collaboratively with each other - and may not offer sufficient flexibility for either the trust nor the school seeking support.
Justin James, CEO of the Lion Academy Trust said “All schools were severely tested by the Covid-19 pandemic. All school leaders know that being isolated from help and additional support is a structural weakness to be remedied. But tying accessing support to an outcome like academisation, without the clear policy roadmap and funding to support this being in place, will hinder a proportion of trusts and schools from engaging in this.”
School improvement is never a quick-fix solution and requires the right foundations to be in place in order to be successful. Having the right data structures, IT systems, CPD and training for staff, a commonly defined pedagogy and well design, all-encompassing curriculum are critical components which need to be in place for school improvement initiatives to flourish.
The Lion Academy Trust offers schools and academies a broad range of support services - from designing harmonised and streamlined back office functions through to an end-to-end primary curriculum to wrap school improvement into a holistic whole-school approach to helping schools sustainably maintain an improvement trajectory.
