Sybourn Primary - Ofsted Outstanding

Sybourn Primary has been inspected by Ofsted and found to be “Outstanding” across all areas of the school. Having joined the Lion Academy Trust in 2013, Sybourn Primary joins Barclay Primary as the second outstanding primary school in theTrust’s family of schools.

Justin James, CEO of the Trust said: “We are delighted to see the hard work and effort from the team at Sybourn recognised in this way. The new framework is exacting and to achieve the Outstanding judgement is a significant achievement. I know this will be a source of real pride for the pupils and community who Sybourn serves - and the Trust welcomes having a further outstanding school to showcase how our ambitions for every pupil are delivered to the highest standards.”

A three-inspector strong team visited the school on 7-8th June and spent the time visiting classes, exploring key subject areas and reviewing the safeguarding of pupils at both school sites.  Janette Boukadida, Head of School, said “The report rightly focuses on our amazing pupils and the work the team do every day to ensure that they are happy, safe and their learning experience is ambitious and rewarding.”

The report states “Pupils are extremely hard working, polite and kind. They are proud of their school. Staff encourage them to make positive contributions to the school community. Working relationships between staff and pupils are exceptionally positive. Staff know their pupils very well and ensure they are safe and happy. “

The Trust welcomes the validation of the curriculum - and how the inspection team noted the “excellent support” for all pupils - including those with special and additional needs.

Andy Bocchi, the Executive Headteacher supporting Sybourn Primary and the former headteacher at the school said: “We work extremely hard to close the gap in attainment and outcomes for those children who need more support and the inspectors rightly noted that the teachers at Sybourn have excellent subject knowledge which allows them to deliver the curriculum to meet the needs of every child, in every classroom. The work to monitor progress and adjust what support every pupil needs and is given is a core part of the success story at Sybourn and the Lion Academy Trust.”

The report also recognised the highly attuned and integrated role of local and trust-level governance in driving forward standards and outcomes. Robin Thompson-Clarke, Chair of the Lion Academy Trust welcomed the report’s findings, stating: “To run high performing schools, you need informed, involved governance structures that do not impede the work of teachers and staff. I was delighted to see the report recognise the strategic impact and support the local parental advisory body provides - and thank members of that body for their hard work and focus in support Sybourn on this journey to being an outstanding school.”
